Description
Set on a 300 acre private island, the five star Isle of Eriska Hotel is a luxurious country house on the West Coast of Scotland. A stay here is a truly unique experience.
With stunning views overlooking Loch Linnhe and the Morvern Mountains, The Isle of Eriska is located at the mouth of Loch Creran in the heart of West Argyll. Built in 1884, the hotel is approximately twelve miles north of Oban and 40 miles south of Fort William.
As well as sixteen bedrooms in the Big House, the estate has five spa suites, two garden cottages, a three bedroom house and six hilltop reserves. All offer a blend of traditional and contemporary decor. The service is exemplary without being formal.
The public rooms at Eriska are as comfortable as they are welcoming. Open fireplaces dominate the ground floor, none more so than in the hall where the fire burns constantly every day of the year. From the light and bright Piano room to the Art Deco Library, the public rooms are gorgeous.
Guests are welcome to use the spa and leisure facilities; play a round on the island’s nine-hole golf course or simply gaze at the abundant wildlife. Otters, golden eagles and grey seals are regularly spotted while a family of badgers ambles up to the hotel each evening for a snack of bread and milk.
Connected to the mainland by a wooden bridge, the Isle of Eriska Hotel feels gloriously remote and offers visitors a real haven of tranquillity.
Luxurious rooms
The 34 bedrooms offer a variety of accommodation. As with any country house the bedrooms vary in shapes and sizes but all have the same facilities, amenities and luxury you would expect from a 5 star hotel.
In the main house, there are two main categories of bedrooms: deluxe and standard. The former are to the front of the house and slightly larger.
The five spa suites are in the gardens and have their own private hot tubs. The hilltop reserves overlook Loch Linnhe and have private hot tub and balconies.
Dining
From sumptuous afternoon teas to seven course tasting menus with optional paired wine flights, meal times – and between times – are always a pleasure at Isle of Eriska.
The kitchen brigade likes to use as much local and seasonal produce as possible. The simple dish descriptions – ‘loin of beef, carrot, carrot oil’ – belie the chefs’ culinary skills and artful presentation.
A highlight for many is the farmhouse cheese trolley which groans under the weight of Britain’s finest artisan cheeses.
Situated above The Stables Spa, The Deck offers a more informal setting and menu. It also has incredible views looking out over Eriska’s golf course, towards the loch and mountains.
See and do
As well as the fantastic wildlife spotting, guests can enjoy numerous activities on and around the island. The hotel can happily arrange clay pigeon shooting, mountain biking, sailing trips, kayaking, sea fishing and croquet matches on the lawn.
The hotel’s golf course and driving range are open to guests.
Spa
The leisure facilities at Isle of Eriska include a seventeen-metre heated swimming pool, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and fully equipped air conditioned gymnasium.
The therapists in the Stable Spa can be booked for massages, beauty procedures and therapeutic treatments using ishga and ESPA products.
