Le Bistrot is a French restaurant just off Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. Housed in the same building as the French Consulate and Insitut Français Ecosse, it brings an authentic taste of home to French nationals living in Scotland. The restaurant’s interior mimics the chic bistros of Paris, with a wide airy space, exposed brick wall and small bistro style tables.
The menu at Le Bistrot is divided into six sections: bistro specials, breakfasts, sandwiches sharing platters, pastries and cakes.
The bistro specials include all the favourite associated with classic French cuisine, such as croque monsieur, quiche and croissant with ham and cheese.
The sandwich section features bread stuffed with fresh cheese and cured meats, similar to the style you would expect to grab from a French sandwicherie.
The Gallic focus continues to the brunch section (croissants feature heavily) along with egg dishes like eggs Benedict and eggs florentine.
Diners with a sweet tooth should not miss the restaurant’s vast offering of pastries and cakes which include pain au chocolate, eclairs, and mille-feuille.
Le Bistrot is located on West Parliament Square, just off Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. Waverley Station is a brisk five minute walk away and Edinburgh Bus Station is a ten minute walk.
Many of Edinburgh’s main sights, including Edinburgh Castle, the Scottish Parliament, Holyrood Castle and the hill leading up to Arthur’s Seat are less than a ten minute walk away.
