Housed in an A-listed building on Bothwell Street, Bavaria Brauhaus is a Bavarian themed restaurant and bier house offering an authentic German experience. An airy space with a mezzanine level and outdoor seating area, it is decorated with a spectacular ceiling mural which echoes the traditional decoration of Munich beer halls. Alongside wines, cocktails and local beers, the Big Six of the Munich brewing scene – Spaten, Hofbrau, Hacker-Pschorr, Augustiner brau, Paulaner and Lowenbrau – are all on draught.
From currywurst sausages to spaetzle noodles in a cheese and herb sauce, the menu at Bavaria Brauhaus is packed with German classics. Light appetites may want to graze from a couple of small plates. The dunkel beer and onion soup would be ideal for a winter’s day while the potted crayfish and hot smoked salmon on rye might be better suited to summer.
As well as a selection of main courses such as the Brauhaus cheeseburger and haddock in a weiss beer batter, there is a section of the menu dedicated to haus specialities. Say ‘jah’ to assorted steaks, chicken schnitzel or red-wine marinated venison served with caraway mash and sweet red cabbage.
Bavaria Brauhaus is on the corner of Bothwell Street and Wellington Street, a hop, skip and a jump from Central Station. There is limited on-street parking and car parks at Waterloo and Mitchell Streets. Nearby attractions include Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, King Tut’s and The Pavilion.
