We booked this for a Xmas treat, I would highly recommend, we were treated above and beyond from the moment we walked in the staff were amazing. The feel of the place was buzzing for Christmas, the decor and history of this iconic place were beautiful. It really made our day feel so special, thanks to everyone that works there, even taking our picture and telling us some history of the building. The selection of teas on the menu was exciting and the china sets and even a bell on the table just added that extra special feel.

So much more than an iconic afternoon tea spot, Mackintosh at the Willow is a fully restored restaurant offering gourmet main courses, sharing platters and cocktails. Step inside this Sauchiehall Street landmark and you will be whisked back into the Art Nouveau elegance of 1903, with dreamy decor and furnishings by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. As well as this, the history exhibition, souvenir shop and tours mean that you can turn your visit into an occasion.
Visitors can dine on three courses of Scottish cuisine, afternoon tea or wander up to the roof terrace to sip on a Champagne cocktail while watching the shoppers below. It is worth noting that this restaurant has its heart in the right place too, as many of its staff are young people from The Prince’s Trust.
Mackintosh at the Willow offers an enticing range of traditional Scottish cuisine, an afternoon tea menu infused with oriental flavours and a rooftop terrace menu of more casual sharing platters, open sandwiches and nibbles.
Typical mains include the customer favourites of sustainable North Sea haddock with chips; Cumberland ring sausage with creamed potatoes or a quiche of the day made with Scottish seasonal ingredients. Or you can try out specialities such as confit dug leg in a mandarin & thyme red wine jus; locally sourced baked salmon fillet served with warm nicoise salad, or vegan lemon tagliatelle with spinach, coconut cream & non-dairy parmesan.
Mackintosh at the Willow change their afternoon tea menu every 6-8 weeks, so their offering is always keeping up with the trends, from themed to classic – there’s something to suit everyone.
The afternoon tea features delicious sandwiches & savouries, plain & fruit scones and carefully curated cakes and bakes.
The tea selection is extensive, giving you a chance to try out brews such as the 1903 Blend, hand-crafted exclusively for Mackintosh at the Willow by Pekoe Tea of Edinburgh.
The restaurant is at the city centre end of Sauchiehall Street, close to many of the main shops. It is also handy for the Theatre Royal, King’s Theatre and GFT cinema. Both Queen Street and Central stations are a 10-minute walk away, plus you can find pay parking at nearby Q-Park.
