The service was impeccable and the good was delicious. The toilets seemed to be a work in progress but were clean.

One of the City's best restaurants

This was superb, it's all about the food, it was a different class. I would recommend.

South Indian soul food in Glasgow city centre

Beyond its quirky pink exterior, Madras Cafe is a haven of Indian comfort food and street cuisine, all freshly made to order.

Promising a ‘true taste of India’, the kitchen brigade aim to raise the bar on Scotland’s favourite curry dishes. In their own words: ‘The difference between a good curry and a great curry is like the difference between elevator music and a full symphony.’

With this in mind, their goal is to eliminate shortcuts and easy fixes, cooking South Indian food the right way. To this end, the chefs use recipes true to the roots of each dish, combined with wholesome natural ingredients (ideally as locally sourced as possible) and classical cooking techniques.

Street cuisine, classic curries and house specials

At Madras Cafe, spices are diligently hand-pounded, with layer upon layer of flavour being built and marinated until each dish tastes exactly as it should.

Starters include crowd-pleasing curry house picks such as pakora, samosas and spicy chicken wings. But you can also sample more unusual delights like coconut-crusted tiger prawns or the Madras Café Special Chicken Tikka (marinated in lemon juice, crushed fennel seeds, Kashmiri chilli and tomato-based pepper sauce). Veggies might be tempted by the deep-fried lentil doughnut soaked in sambar or the medu vada crunchy dumpling.

Over in the mains, you will find a range of solid favourites like rogan josh, tikka masala and korma. But you can also sample street food dishes like masala dosa; regional offerings like monkfish Kerala, or house specials such as butter chicken tikka. A notable tandoori grill choice is the silver pomfret marinated with aromatic spices.

Veggies can tuck into dishes like tandoori paneer tikka, Bombay aloo jeera and malai kofta deep-fried potato & paneer balls.

Great central location

Madras Cafe is on Howard Street close to the St. Enoch Centre, making it easy to reach from both Central and Queen Street stations.

You will also be handy for the Odeon Cinema, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and most of the main city centre shopping areas.
