    First class service

I booked a late afternoon meal for 6 girlfriends and myself and we had a great catch up. The waitress we had was amazing, so friendly and helpful 🩷 Everyone really enjoyed their food, I had the King Prawn saganaki (sp) which was delicious and a very healthy sized portion, followed by chicken Milanese and I was able to choose penne pasta instead of spaghetti (one of my friends chose chips and she was very happy with this) We were enjoying ourselves so much we stayed to listen to the band who were very good. Keep a hold of your lovely waitress, she is an asset. Ps..the other staff were really nice too. A thoroughly enjoyable visit.

    Lovely night out with friends

This restaurant offered us a great place to meet our friends. The staff were absolutely fantastic. Very funny and helped make our night enjoyable. The table and space around us was good and we didn’t feel pressured to leave. We all enjoyed our food, some dishes were better than others but nothing was bad. The prawn and mussel starters went down well. Spaghetti meatballs are not as good, but completely fine. Yes we’d return and recommend it to friends.

A Food History of Glasgow’s Merchant City

Now a bustling hub of restaurants, clubs and cafes, the Merchant City has a rich history and a background of commerce, trade and rich residences and coinciding with this, a fascinating food and drink history.

The area around the Merchant City was where Glasgow, as a city, first began as a fishing settlement around the 6th century. Trading has always been key to the area’s wealth and daily activity; in the early middle ages the area had a salt market (the area has retained the market’s name, the Saltmaket, just south of the Merchant City), a fruit and vegetable market in Gallowgate, a meat market between Candleriggs and Glassford Street, and a fish market as well as a grain market near High Street…
